Sophian Plaza Update
The Sophian Plaza was designed by Charles Shepard at the request of Henry Sophian and constructed in 1923. Located in the country club plaza region of Kansas City, Missouri, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Beaux Arts style façade is comprised of cast stone, stucco, brick, and natural limestone.
Many of these building elements had begun to show signs of deterioration typical of a building of this age. After completing a restoration of the east colonnade in 2019, MCR was again contracted to perform a comprehensive restoration of the entire remaining façade and wood window frames.
Sophian Plaza’s 46 unit owners, as the homeowners’ association (HOA), are vested with the care of this building nearly 100 years old. This work is scheduled for completion in spring of 2023, just in time for the centennial of the building.
This project is part of the HOA’s continuing effort to maintain and preserve the building.
