Patterson Hall Restoration at Southern Methodist University
Mid-Continental Restoration recently completed a comprehensive restoration project at Patterson Hall on the Southern Methodist University campus. This historic building underwent significant repair and restoration work, focusing on the brick and stone elements. Scaffolding was utilized to safely access difficult areas around the process piping, allowing for meticulous restoration. The project included the removal and restoration of the original window openings, followed by the installation of new energy-efficient windows. Additionally, the northeast corner was completely disassembled and rebuilt using the original bricks to reinforce structural stability and improve waterproofing.
Challenges and Solutions
One of the key challenges was maintaining the building’s historic integrity while addressing structural and waterproofing concerns. The northeast corner required a complete disassembly to secure the building’s stability. By reusing the original bricks, the team ensured that the historic aesthetic was preserved while modern waterproofing methods were integrated. The use of scaffolding around the hard-to-reach areas allowed the crew to safely and effectively conduct repairs without damaging the surrounding architecture.
Results
The project was completed ahead of schedule, with no disruption to the building’s occupants or the surrounding campus. The restored brick and stone elements, along with the new energy-efficient windows, have not only enhanced the building’s appearance but also improved its structural integrity and energy efficiency. The successful completion of this project demonstrates Mid-Continental Restoration’s expertise in preserving and revitalizing historic structures while incorporating modern upgrades.
