National Research Corporation Building Update
The National Research Corporation building in Lincoln, Nebraska, embarked on a comprehensive restoration of the exterior in June 2021. One of the project’s pivotal tasks was the meticulous chemical paint stripping of the exterior masonry, a delicate process that required nighttime shifts to minimize disruption in the congested urban environment. Throughout the restoration, our team reconstructed the parapet walls, replaced hundreds of terra cotta units and structural steel components, and addressed issues like spalled and cracked bricks. In addition to these extensive structural repairs, craftsmen painstakingly repointed several thousand feet of defective mortar joints to ensure the building’s long-term integrity. Around 90% of the repair work was executed from swing stages suspended from the building’s roof.
To complete the exterior transformation, a breathable masonry coating was applied to protect and rejuvenate the masonry surfaces. With the exterior restoration accomplished, the focus now shifts to the interior of the building, where future renovations, by others, will breathe new life into this iconic structure, making it a symbol of preservation and modernization in the heart of Lincoln.
